- What are the eligibility criteria
for CGCAT?
The eligibility criteria with respect to age limit, educational qualifications etc. for CGCAT are elaborated in the notification available on the website https://joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in/cgcat
Eligibility Criteria for : - I am meeting the age criteria as
per the advertisement. However when I am filling up the form
online, it is showing error indicating I am not eligible. Am I
eligible or not?
Eligibility criteria may change from batch to batch and post to post. Please read the advertisement carefully. Check whether you meet the criteria or not. Ascertain your age eligibility and then fill the form.
- I have a Commercial Pilot License
issued by DGCA (India). Am I eligible for age relaxation for
flying branch?
The candidate Should have passed 12th class or equivalent with minimum 50% aggregate marks for General/EWS/OBC candidates and 45% aggregate for SC/ST candidates and should possess current Commercial Pilot Licence issued/ validated by Director General Civil Aviation on the date of submission of application. Age should be 19-25 years (5 Yrs relaxation for SC/ST and 3 Yrs for OBC). Other than above, there is no separate age relaxation in the name of qualification.
- What are the physical standards,

- Is the candidate eligible for TA
or other allowance for appearing in the CGCAT?
- SC/ST candidates - To & Fro travelling fares by IInd class railway/bus fare by shortest route (only from the current or permanent address mentioned in E-admit card of Stage-I, II & III) will be reimbursed on production of original tickets irrespective of the number of appearances.
- Other Candidates - To & Fro travelling fares by AC III/Chair Car or actual normal bus fare by shortest route (only from the current or permanent address mentioned in E-admit card) to the candidates appearing first time in FSB (Stage-III) will be reimbursed on production of original tickets only.
- I have a degree from a foreign
university. Am I eligible?
For being eligible for CGCAT, the degree must be recognised by UGC / AICTE / Ministry of HRD / DEC.
- My university has awarded CGPA.
How do I fill up the percentage column?
In case of candidates being awarded Grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of Grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the Bachelor’s degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA then refer the notification for conversion.
- What is the Medical Standards
that I am supposed to have?
Entry level Medical standards is available [Click Here]. Medical examination will be conducted by authorised military doctors as per medical standard prescribed in current regulations applicable for each post of Assistant Commandant.
- Do I get another chance if I am
rejected during final medicals?
If a qualified candidate do not clear final medicals in a particular batch, then he has to undergo the selection procedure afresh in the subsequent batch.
- I want to apply for all the seven
post of Assistant Commandant as I am eligible to apply for all.
Can I apply for all the post?
Multi Option Entry Scheme is applicable for General Duty and Technical entry only. Candidate can check the eligibility criteria and can apply accordingly.
- Will I get my salary after I
join Indian Coast Guard?
You will be paid from the day you are appointed in the Indian Coast Guard. Your first salary may take a while to be paid to you as there will be requirement of submitting certain documents and opening of a bank account.
- Will I be provided with travel
fare for joining INA Ezhimala?
You will not be provided any free warrant/money for the journey from your home station to INA Ezhimala at the time of induction at INA Ezhimala.
- What do I do with the MRO handed
over to me along with my appeal medical forms?
You have to deposit Rupees Forty or as directed in cash at the main branch of State Bank of India in your city in the account of CDA (Navy) Noida or eMRO. The bank will acknowledge the receipt. You are to submit the receipt of MRO alogwith written request to Directorate of Recruitment Office, Noida. Further, you have to report within stipulated time period (42 days) at opted hospital for Appeal Medical. If you do not report to the concerned hospital within 42 days for Appeal, then you will be marked ‘UNFIT IN ABSENTIA’ and your candidature will be cancelled. There is no refund for the amount deposited as MRO.
- Do I need to do anything after I
get myself physically checked after appeal medicals for Stage
IV?
You don't have to do anything, if you are fit. You have to wait for the declaration of the merit list and check the same in your login dashboard. In case you are unfit, you may request for Review Medical Board. But request for Review Medical Board is not a matter of right and can be rejected by CGHQ or DGAFMS for any reason.
- Is there any age relaxation for
Graduates/Post Graduates?
No, there is no age relaxation based on qualification. Age relaxation is available only on category basis i.e SC/ST/OBC category or service candidates.
- Is there any reservation for
International/National level sportsmen in the selection test for
recruitment of Assistant Commandant in Indian Coast Guard?
No, there is no reservation for any sportsman in the Selection Test for recruitment Assistant Commandant in Indian Coast Guard.
- I have tattoo on my body. Will I
be considered for selection in Indian Coast Guard?
Permanent body tattoos are not permitted on any part of the body. However, certain concessions are permitted to candidates belonging to tribal areas communities as declared by the Govt. of India. For other candidates, permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearms i.e. from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand. - I am declared pass in stage I and
stage II, however I could not qualify in stage III as I was low
in merit. Can I be considered for next batch based on my
performance in the current recruitment process?
The candidate's selection pertaining to a particular batch is valid for that batch only. Qualified candidates whose names do not appear in the final select list cannot claim selection for the next batch. These candidates will have to undergo the selection procedure afresh provided that they meet the eligibility criteria for the fresh batch.
- Whether the merit list for all
the post is prepared on all India or Zone wise?
The merit list is prepared on all India basis and not Zone wise. The recruitment zones are designated only for administrative reasons.
- have given final exam in my
college, can I apply?
Following is the criteria for candidates in final year of college/ university to apply:-
Ser Type of Course Mandatory Documents to be held by candidates at the time of filling online form (i) Yearly Course (wherein exams are conducted once a year) - Second year marksheet with date of issue on or before the closing date of application (if Course is for 03 years)
- Third Year marksheet with date of issue on or before the closing date of application (if course is of 04 years)
(ii) Semester Course - Fifth semester marksheet with date of issue on or before the closing date of application (if course is for six semesters)
- Seventh semester marksheet with date of issue on or before the closing date of application (if course is of eight semesters)
Candidates not fulfilling the above criteria are not eligible to apply - Is exam for General Duty and
Technical Entry separate?
There is only one combined common CGCAT exam for all branches i.e General Duty, General Duty (Pilot Navigator)/SSA, Technical (Engineering/Electrical).
- Is there any exam for Law entry?
No. Law candidates are directly called for screening in Stage-II (PSB) after they submit application online.
- Can the date and place of PSB be
changed once it is alloted?
No, once the allotment of PSB centre and date is completed, changes are not feasible.
- Where can I register for the
CGCAT online?
You have to register for CGCAT on the website https://joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in/cgcatreg Please note that registration is being done through this website only. Do not register for CGCAT on any other website.
- Is there any fee / registration
charges etc. for CGCAT?
Yes, there is fee for applying / appearing in the CGCAT. which is exempted only for SC/ST candidates. Please refer the notification available on the website [Click Here] for details of fee, mode of payment etc.
- I have registered online on the
website https://joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in for CGCAT. However,
I have not received any password. What should I do?
The password is sent to the email address through which you have registered. If you do not receive your password, you may also use “Forgot Password Option” to receive a new password. However, candidates must note that they have to enter their email address correctly. Email address should be a valid one and in use.

I have misplaced/forgotten my
Username and Password. Kindly forward the same.
Username is your registered E mail ID. To receive a new password, please opt for ‘Forgot Password’, and follow the instructions.
- Do I need to send any documents /
self-addressed envelope to CGCAT Cell for Admit Card etc?
No. There is no requirement of sending anything by post to CGCAT Cell. Applications are online only.
- I have filled all columns, yet I
am unable to proceed to the next part during filling up of the
form.
You would have entered certain information which may not be in consonance with the eligibility criteria.
- I do not know the specifications
for uploading of photo, signature and thumb impression?
Candidate is required to upload recent passport size colour photograph, signature and thumb impression duly scanned in jpg/ jpeg format ready in such a manner that the size of each file should be between 10 and 50 kb.
- Do I write the marks in decimal
form or only in two digits?
If the percentage of marks is in decimals, then it will be entered upto third place of decimals.
- What are the posts for which a
candidate can apply?
The candidate can apply for the following posts in a particular batch subject to availability of vacancy as notified in the advertisement:-
- Assistant Commandant (General Duty)
- Assistant Commandant {General Duty (Pilot Navigator)}
- Assistant Commandant (Women-SSA)
- Assistant Commandant Law
- Assistant Commandant (Technical - Mechanical)

- I am not able to submit online
application, it is slow. What should i do?
Please check your internet speed and see whether you have updated internet browser-Google Chrome/Internet Explorer etc. Still If you are not able to submit from your Home-PC, go to internet cafe where you will get good speed.
- Can women candidate apply in
Indian Coast Guard for recruitment of Assistant Commandant?
Yes, if the vacancies are available in the advertisement published for a particular batch.
- During application procedure, my
money has been deducted from my account but the application is
not submitted, how do I resolve this?
Write an e-mail to icgcell[at]cdac[dot]in with proof of deduction of money from your account. The problem will be resolved at the earliest.
- I was declared as passed in
document verification when I reported for Stage II. However, I
am declared as fail in document verification at Stage III, my
documents are same. How can I be declared fail in document
verification at Stage III?
The document verification is carried out at multiple stages of recruitment process. The common causes for failing in document verification are available on the website [Click Here] You might have cleared the document verification during Stage-II due to oversight by the concerned Recruitment Officials. You would have been informed about the reason for your failure in document verification in Stage-III. Further, document Verification will also be carried out at later stages of recruitment and after induction also, wherein original documents issued through boards/universities/state government are verified by Indian Coast Guard. Candidate will be terminated from service if the documents are reported as not genuine by respective boards/universities/state government.
- What
are the documents that I should carry when I come for Stage I,
Stage II and Stage III?
As per the e-admit card.
- What
is Character Certificate? Where will I get it?
The certificate which defines your character is Character Certificate. You have to get it issued from any one of Police/ Revenue Official/Head Master/ Principal of recognized school/ college/ Sarpanch /Armed Forces Commissioned Officers (Active List) and Any Gazetted Officer. The validity of this certificate will be 6 months from the date of Signing Authority.
- What
is reason for rejection during document verification?
Reason for rejection during document verification is as follows: -
- Name of candidate in the e-admit card/ application is not as per 10th certificate, 12th certificate, Diploma certificate, photo ID card, SC/ST/OBC/EWS Certificate and any other certificate uploaded in application.
- Date of Birth of candidate in the e-admit card/ application is not as per 10th certificate, or Birth Certificate or Aadhaar Card.
- Father Name of candidate in the e-admit card/ application is not as per 10th certificate, or Birth Certificate or Aadhaar Card.
- Non submission of required original documents.
- Expired Caste/ EWS / OBC (non creamy layer) certificate.
- OBC (non creamy layer) certificate not as per Central Govt. format.
- Educational document issued by unauthorised board/university.
- Wrong Category (SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ EWS/ UR) mentioned in application form by the candidate and not duly supported with documents.
- The marks for each subject and the aggregate percentage mentioned in the application not matching with the supporting documents submitted by the candidates. Thereby, leading to false information in the application form. False information in application leads to cancellation of candidature.
- Photograph in the application form does not match with the candidate.
- Signature in the application/ e-admit card does not match at the time of written examination at designated exam centre.
- Not in possession of original valid proof of identity such as passport or driving license or Aadhaar card or Voter I-Card or Pan Card as submitted/ entered in application during various stages of recruitment.
- Not in possession of coloured printed application and E-admit card.
- Not meeting the age criteria as mentioned in the advertisement for the said post.
- Mismatch of your biometric with written examination record.
- Non-reporting on the day/time of Stage I, Stage II and Stage III.
- I have applied for post of
Assistant Commandant a number of times but I did not get a call
letter.
You might not have received the call letter due to any of the following reasons:-
- Application not received in time by us due to internet failures.
- Application incorrectly filled.
- You may not be fulfilling the eligibility criteria.
- Did not receive the application fee in the correct account before closing of application
- Will I be eligible to apply for
Computer Based Examination if I have just secured the passing
percentage in my qualifying examination {Graduation/Degree} and
I meet the other criteria of the advertisement for the said
post?
No, Only candidates who have cleared their final year/ final semester exams or candidate in last year/ semester or completed their degrees with certain minimum prescribed percentage can apply for the post of Assistant Commandant. Moreover, the candidates who have completed their Degree should be in possession of Original/Provisional Degree issued by the College/University. if not, the candidate must be in a possession of "Non issuance of Degree Certificate" issued / signed from the concerned University only (format available in https://joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in/cgcat). No candidates will be permitted to appear in PSB without above documents in Original.
- I misplaced my e-admit card and
was found by the other person. The other person reported at the
examination centre with my e-admit card and appears for the
examination. The Coast Guard invigilation staff identifies the
other candidate as imposter. What will happen?
The other person will not be allowed to appear the examination. The eligible candidate will be able to appear the examination only after the verification of his identity at the examination centre with e-admit card issued.
- What is the scheme and syllabus
for CGCAT exam?
CGCAT is an objective test .The exam is of two hours and consists of 100 questions .The scheme of syllabus contains General Awareness, English, Numerical Ability, Reasoning & Military Aptitude. - I am unable to find details about
conduct of CGCAT and the examination centers of CGCAT?

- Is there any negative marking for
CGCAT exam?
Yes
- What is the examination fee? Is
there any waiver of fee for SC/ST candidates?
The application/examination fee for UR/EWS/OBC candidates is Rs. 300/-. SC/ST candidates are exempted from paying the application/examination fee. The applicants can pay the examination fee by Credit/debit card/net banking of all banks. For further details, visit the website [Click Here]
- What are the examinations I would
be subjected to ?
The Stage-I examinations planned for candidates of all branches (except Law) is as follows:-

No, every candidate has to give written test.
- Is there any additional marks for
NCC ‘C’ certificate in the written test?
There is no additional marks for NCC certificate in written test.
- I checked my result and found
that I have not been shortlisted for Stage II (PSB) even though
I have obtained passing marks in the written test. Why?
Merely obtaining passing marks in the written test is not sufficient for issue of E-Admit Card for Stage II (PSB). E-Admit Card for Stage II (PSB) are issued to candidates as per merit and available vacancy for Stage II (PSB) as per merit. The cutoff marks for Stage II (PSB) will be announced in individual Login ID.
- I am UR candidate, but by mistake
I have filled my category as ST. I have passed the written
examination and been issued with e-admit card for PSB. During
PSB want to correct my category from ST to UR and I am willing
to pay the application fees also. Will I be allowed to change my
category at a later date?
False information in the application even filled inadvertently leads to cancellation of candidature. Hence, your request for change of category will not be approved and your candidature will be cancelled.
- Please let me know what will
happen if I inadvertently took my mobile phone/ electronic
gadget inside the examination centre. The invigilation staff
also did not notice my mobile phone/ electronic gadget during
the frisking process prior to the start of the examination.
Your candidature will be cancelled and you will be debarred from appearing in future Coast Guard recruitment examination. You will be handed over to police and FIR/ Criminal proceedings will be initiated against you.
