Queries of general nature are covered below. You are advised to read this before approaching Coast Guard Recruitment Centre for any clarification. Procedure for Enrolment may change from time to time due to change in policy.

  1. CGCAT is conducted twice a year (in the month of February and September). The advertisement for the same is published in the months of November and June respectively.

  3. Please read the advertisement carefully. Check whether you meet the criteria or not. Ascertain your age eligibility and then fill the form.

  4. The candidate Should have passed 12th class or equivalent with minimum 50% aggregate marks for General/EWS/OBC candidates and 45% aggregate for SC/ST candidates and should possess current Commercial Pilot Licence issued/ validated by Director General Civil Aviation on the date of submission of application. Age should be 19-25 years (5 Yrs relaxation for SC/ST and 3 Yrs for OBC).

    Physical Standards, Medical Standards and Selection Procedure for :

    1. SC/ST candidates - To & Fro travelling fares by IInd class railway/bus fare by shortest route (only from the current or permanent address mentioned in E-admit card of Stage-I, II & III) will be reimbursed to SC/ST candidates only on production of original tickets irrespective of the number of appearances.
    2. Other Candidates - To & Fro travelling fares by AC III/Chair Car or actual normal bus fare by shortest route (only from the current or permanent address mentioned in E-admit card) to the candidates appearing first time in FSB (Stage-III) will be reimbursed on production of original tickets only.

  6. For being eligible for CGCAT, the degree must be recognised by UGC / AICTE / Ministry of HRD / DEC.

  7. In case of candidates being awarded Grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of Grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the Bachelor’s degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA then refer the notification.

  8. Entry level Medical standards is available [Click Here]. Medical examination will be conducted by authorised military doctors as per medical standard prescribed in current regulations applicable for the post of Assistant Commandant.

  9. If a qualified candidate do not clear final medicals in a particular batch, then he has to undergo the selection procedure afresh in the subsequent batch.

  10. All the candidates can apply for only one of the post as per the eligibility criteria mentioned in the advertisement.

  11. You will be paid from the day you are enrolled in Indian Coast Guard. Your first salary may take a while to be paid to you as there will be requirement of submitting certain documents and open a bank account.

  12. You will not be provided any free warrant/money for the journey from your home station to INA Ezhimala at the time of induction at INA Ezhimala.

  13. You have to deposit Rupees Forty or as directed in cash at the main branch of State Bank of India in your city in the account of CDA (Navy) Noida or eMRO. The bank will acknowledge the receipt. You are to submit the receipt of MRO alogwith written request to Directorate of Recruitment Office, Noida. Further, you have to report within stipulated time period (42 days) at opted hospital for Appeal Medical. If you do not report to the concerned hospital within 42 days for Appeal, then you will marked ‘UNFIT IN ABSENTIA’ and your candidature will be cancelled.

  14. You don't have to do anything, if you are fit. You have to wait for the declaration of the merit and check the same in your login dashboard. In case you are unfit, you may request for Review Medical Board.

  15. No, there is no age relaxation for the post of Assistant Commandant in Indian Coast Guard for Graduate/Post Graduate candidates or for any other courses.

  16. No, there is no reservation for any sportsman in the Selection Test for recruitment Assistant Commandant in Indian Coast Guard.

  17. Permanent body tattoos are not permitted on any part of the body. However, certain concessions are permitted to candidates belonging to tribal areas communities as declared by the Govt. of India. For other candidates, permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearms i.e. from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand.   18. The candidate's selection pertaining to a particular batch is valid for that batch only. Qualified candidates whose names do not appear in the final select list cannot claim admission for the next batch. These candidates will have to undergo the selection procedure afresh provided that they meet the eligibility criteria for the fresh batch.

  19. The merit list is prepared on all India basis and not Zone wise. The recruitment zones are designated only for administrative reasons.

  1. You have to register for CGCAT on the website https://joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in/cgcatreg Please note that registration is being done through this website only. Do not register for CGCAT on any other website.

  2. Yes, there is fee for applying / appearing in the CGCAT. Please refer the notification available on the website [Click Here] for details of fee, mode of payment etc.

  3. The password is sent to the email address through which you have registered. If you do not receive your password, you may also use “Forgot Password Option” to receive a new password. However, candidates must note that they have to enter their email address correctly. Email address should be a valid one and in use.

  4. Username is your registered E mail ID. To receive a new password, please opt for ‘Forgot Password’, and follow the instructions.

  5. No. There is no requirement of sending anything by post to CGCAT Cell. Applications are online only.

  6. You would have entered certain information which may not be in consonance with the eligibility criteria.

  7. Candidate is required to upload recent passport size colour photograph, signature and thumb impression duly scanned in jpg/ jpeg format ready in such a manner that the size of each file should be between 10 and 50 kb.

  8. If the percentage of marks is in decimals, then it will be entered upto 3 decimals.

  9. The candidate can apply any one post from the following posts in a particular batch:-

    • Assistant Commandant (GD)
    • Assistant Commandant {GD(P/N)}
    • Assistant Commandant (Women-SSA)
    • Assistant Commandant Law
    • Assistant Commandant (Technical - Mechanical)
    • Assistant Commandant (Technical – Electrical/ Electronics)
    • Assistant Commandant (Commercial Pilot License-SSA)

  10. Please check your internet speed and see whether you have updated internet browser-Google Chrome/Internet Explorer etc. Still If you are not able to submit from your Home-PC, go to internet cafe where you will get good speed.

  11. Yes, if the vacancies are available in the advertisement published for a particular batch.

  12. Write an e-mail on icgcell[at]cdac[dot]in with proof of deduction of money from your account. The problem will be resolved at the earliest.

  1. The document verification is carried out at multiple stages of recruitment process. The common causes for failing in document verification are available on the website [Click Here] You might have cleared the document verification during Stage-II due to oversight by the concerned recruitment Officials. You would have been informed about the reason for your failure in document verification in Stage-III. Further, document Verification will also be carried out at later stages of recruitment and after induction also, wherein original documents issued through boards/universities/state government are verified by Indian Coast Guard. Candidate will be terminated from service if the documents are reported as not genuine by respective boards/universities/state government.

  2. As per the e-admit card.

  3. The certificate which defines your character is Character Certificate. You have to get it issued from any one of Police/ Revenue Official/Head Master/ Principal of recognized school/ college/ Sarpanch /Armed Forces Commissioned Officers (Active List) and Any Gazetted Officer. The validity of this certificate will be 6 months from the date of Signing Authority.

  4. Reason for rejection during document verification is as follows: -

    • Name of candidate in the e-admit card/ application is not as per 10th certificate, 12th certificate, Diploma certificate, photo ID card, SC/ST/OBC/EWS Certificate and any other certificate uploaded in application.
    • Date of Birth of candidate in the e-admit card/ application is not as per 10th certificate, 12th certificate, Diploma certificate, photo ID card, SC/ST/OBC/EWS Certificate and any other certificate uploaded in application.
    • Father Name of candidate in the e-admit card/ application is not as per 10th certificate, 12th certificate, Diploma certificate, photo ID card, SC/ST/OBC/EWS Certificate and any other certificate uploaded in application.
    • Non submission of required original documents.
    • Expired Caste/ EWS / OBC (non creamy layer) certificate.
    • OBC (non creamy layer) certificate not as per Central Govt. format.
    • Educational document issued by unauthorised board/university.
    • Wrong Category (SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ EWS/ UR) mentioned in application form by the candidate and not duly supported with documents.
    • The marks for each subject and the aggregate percentage mentioned in the application not matching with the supporting documents submitted by the candidates. Thereby, leading to false information in the application form. False information in application leads to cancellation of candidature.
    • Photograph in the application form does not match with the candidate.
    • Signature in the application/ e-admit card does not match at the time of written examination at designated exam centre.
    • Not in possession of original valid proof of identity such as passport or driving license or Aadhar card or Voter I-Card or Pan Card as submitted/ entered in application during various stages of recruitment.
    • Not in possession of coloured printed application and E-admit card.
    • Not meeting the age criteria as mentioned in the advertisement for the said post.
    • Mismatch of your biometric with written examination record.
    • Non-reporting on the day/time of Stage I, Stage II and Stage III.

  1. You might not have received the call letter due to any of the following reasons:-

    • Application not received in time by us due to internet failures.
    • Application incorrectly filled.
    • You may not be fulfilling the eligibility criteria.
    • Coast Guard did not receive the application fee in their account before closing of application
  2. No, Only candidates who have cleared their final year/ final semester exams and completed their degrees can apply for the post of Assistant Commandant. However, the candidates who have completed their Degree should be in possession of Original/Provisional Degree issued by the College/University. if not, the candidate must be in a possession of "Non issuance of Degree Certificate" issued / signed from the concerned University only (format available in https://joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in/cgcat). No candidates will be permitted to appear in PSB without above documents in Original.

  3. Yes, the candidates have to produce the online application and e-admit card duly verified by ICG officer as follows: -
    Stage II – Duly stamped and signed e-admit card at Stage I by ICG officer
    Stage III –

    1. Duly stamped and signed e-admit card at Stage I
    2. Duly stamped and signed e-admit card at Stage II
    3. Duly stamped and signed online application at Stage II.

    Note: : -Non submission of duly stamped and signed e-admit card verified by ICG officer at Stage II & Stage III as mentioned above will lead to cancellation of candidature on account of incomplete submission of documents. The candidates are advised not to leave the examination centers without stamping of above documents by ICG officer. The candidates are advised to retain the e-admit cards and online application duly stamped by ICG officer till induction in service at INA Ezhimala.

  4. The other person will not be allowed to appear the examination. The eligible candidate will be able to appear the examination only after the verification of his identity at the examination centre with e-admit card issued.

  1. CGCAT is an objective test .The exam is of two hours and consists of 100 questions .The scheme of syllabus contains General Awareness, English, Numerical Ability, Reasoning & Military Aptitude.   5. The application/examination fee for UR/EWS/OBC candidates is Rs. 250/-. SC/ST candidates are exempted from paying the application/examination fee. The applicants can pay the examination fee by Credit/debit card/net banking of all banks. For further details, visit the website [Click Here]

  7. No, every candidate has to give written test.

  8. There is no additional marks for NCC certificate in written test.

  9. Merely obtaining passing marks in the written test is not sufficient for issue of E-Admit Card for Stage II (PSB). E-Admit Card for Stage II (PSB) are issued to candidates who meet the cut off criteria applied for Stage II (PSB) as per merit. The cutoff marks for Stage II (PSB) will be announced on ICG website.

  10. False information in the application even filled inadvertently leads to cancellation of candidature. Hence, your request for change of category will not be approved and your candidature will be cancelled.

  11. Your candidature will be cancelled and you will be debarred from appearing in future Coast Guard recruitment examination. You will be handed over to police and FIR/ Criminal proceedings will be initiated against you.
